Trouble Shooting for iPods with Click Wheels | Trouble Shooting for Touch iPods

Trouble Shooting for iPods with Click Wheels

1. Reset

To reset your iPod with a click wheel:

• 1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)

• 2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

o Tip: If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center.

o If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep. Also try plugging your USB cable into a different port on your computer.

2. Restart

Try restarting your computer and making sure that the latest software updates have been downloaded and installed(including windows software and iTunes software).

3. Restore

To restore your iPod simply make sure you have the most recent version of iTunes installed. Then plug your iPod into the computer. When your iPod shown up in iTunes, slick on the restore button and follow the prompts.

4. Reconnect

If all of the above has failed, and you worked on your iPod before the troubleshooting, try opening the iPod back up and making sure that all of the connector clips have been correctly connected, and all of the ribbon cables are properly inserted and locked down. Then close the iPod and restart the troubleshooting process. If you have tried all of the above and the issue is still occurring, professional diagnostics and or professional installation should be considered.

Trouble Shooting for Touch iPods

1. Recharge

Connect iPod touch to a high-power USB port, such as the one on your computer, or use your iPod touch AC adapter. If either of these screens are present, keep iPod touch connected so it continues charging.

• Don't use the USB port on your keyboard because it is a low-power port and iPod touch will not charge.

• If you see the red part of the battery image flash three times and then the screen goes black, it means that iPod touch is not receiving power to charge.

• If the iPod touch battery is extremely low on power, the display may be blank for up to two minutes before one of the low-battery images appears.

Note:
Make sure you are using USB to charge. Accessories that use FireWire to charge are not supported with iPod touch.

2. Restart

To restart iPod touch, first turn iPod touch off by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button until a red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider and iPod touch will turn off after a few moments.

Next, turn iPod touch on by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.

Is iPod touch not responding? To reset iPod touch, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least 10 seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

3. Update

Updating your iPod touch and iTunes software may solve your issue. Make sure you are using the latest version of iTunes. Next, connect iPod touch. In the left column under Devices, click on your iPod touch. Click on Check for Update in the Summary tab, then follow the instructions.

4. Restore

To restore your iPod touch, first make sure you are using the latest version of iTunes. Next, connect iPod touch. In the left column under Devices, click on your iPod touch, then click on Restore in the Summary tab. For more information about backing up, updating, and restoring your iPod touch software, see this article. Note: This will delete all media and data. All settings will be reset as well. If possible, sync iPod touch with iTunes before restoring to back up your most recent data and settings.
