Step 6: Removing the top plastic. To remove the top of the iPod hold the iPod so that the screen is facing you.  Your screwdriver will work best when carefully inserted between the plastic and the edge of the iPod.  A good reference point is about ¼ inch to the right of the word “hold” written on the top piece of plastic.  Prying up gently will release the plastic from the glue underneath.
