Step 10: Soldering the battery. You can go through the painful process of removing the insulation and soldering to the motherboard directly, or you can use the following approach: Clip the battery leads flush with the battery, you want to keep as much length as possible attached to the motherboard. Remove 1/8 inch of the insulation on each wire to prepare it for soldering to the new battery (this is just the tip of the wire). Using a fine tip soldering iron, solder the battery leads to the appropriate wires. i.e.: red to red, black to black, and white to white. Use heat shrink tube (preferred) or black tape to fully insulate the wires before reassembly (the leads cannot touch each other or the motherboard for any reason. |
